Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Smart Seminar, our methodology, and what this platform does and does not do.

About Smart Seminar

Does Smart Seminar sell courses or certifications?

No. Smart Seminar does not sell courses, certifications, or training of any kind. We are an independent evaluation platform. We earn no referral or affiliate fees from training providers. The revenue model is described on the About page.

Why does Smart Seminar not have star ratings?

Star ratings measure satisfaction, not development value. Research on learning evaluation consistently shows that satisfaction ratings correlate poorly with skill acquisition and behaviour change. They also systematically favour engaging delivery over rigorous outcomes, and favour providers with polished marketing over providers with measurable results. Our Verdict Band system uses qualified statements — not scores — to communicate evaluation outcomes.

Who writes the content?

All evaluation, comparison, pathway, and framework content is written by Priya Sandhu and Callum Forsythe, two practitioners with direct experience of professional development decisions in UK organisations. Biographical details are on the About page.

How is Smart Seminar funded?

Currently through the newsletter. There are no advertising arrangements, no affiliate links, and no sponsored content. Future revenue may come from premium tool access or organisational subscriptions. Any change to this model will be disclosed on the About page and Editorial Standards page.

Evaluations and methodology

How are evaluations conducted?

Every evaluation follows a documented methodology covering: methodology transparency of the programme, learning outcome clarity, format suitability for stated objectives, credential recognition in the UK market, and cost and time investment relative to alternatives. The full methodology is on the Editorial Standards page.

How current are the evaluations?

Every evaluation includes a "Last reviewed" date. We aim to review all evaluations annually and update them when providers make material changes to programme content, format, or cost. If you believe an evaluation contains outdated information, please contact us with details.

Can I suggest a certification for evaluation?

Yes. Use the contact form to suggest a certification or seminar. We cannot promise to include every suggestion, but we track all requests when considering future evaluations.

Tools

Are the tools free to use?

Yes. All tools — the Learning Path Builder, Seminar Match Engine, Certification Comparator, Skills Gap Analyser, and Career Progression Planner — are free to use and do not require an account.

Do the tools store my data?

The Learning Path Builder saves your most recent inputs in your browser's local storage so your selections persist between visits. This data does not leave your device. The other tools do not save any data. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

GDPR and data

How does Smart Seminar handle personal data?
